The problem with Vodafone customer care finally resolved

who the hell coined this idea of a customer care on phone.

for the last few months i have had encounters with a quite a few customer cares associated with prime brands and let me tell you they havent helped me the least.

the latest in question is Vodafone (yes the new version of hutch). lately they have also started with a ‘happy to help’ ad for their co-operative customer care executives. but my experience with the Vodafone people has not been good. Read more »

World Earth Day

it’s world earth day today and i have my own unique way to help my planet.

first i have decided not to use tissues at office today. tissues are manufactured from pulps of trees (if i am correct). deciding not to use tissues will save on some amount of trees and may be our earth will breathe a little more fresh air.

second i have decided to plug in to the power switch only when the battery backup of my laptop is just about to go. since boss isn’t at office today, i would be on my desk for the entire day. so i can safely switch off the power.

for all the good things that earth has given to me, this is a small gift from my side.

a better gift will be if i am able to continue on these sacrifices on all days. it isn’t as difficult you see.

so how are you celebrating earth day? do write to me

Ramnavami and a stretched weekend

thanks to ramnavami, which fell on 14th april this year, many employed people were able to take a long relaxing break of three days at a stretch – saturday (2nd saturday), sunday and monday. if the crowd at old delhi station was an evidence, many used the weekend to visit their homes in neighbouring states. for me, the time was to prepare the house for the new bride (my bhabhi). bhaiya left for home on saturday and i decided to better use the time alone for this good cause. it’s the last day of vacation today, and i have single handedly completed the cleaning of all rooms, kitchen and hall.

My tryst with internet

it was 2001 and there was an unsent admit card that was vexing me. there were only a few weeks left for the exam and i had spent more than a thousand on the form. phone calls to the institute didn’t help. someone suggested me to email the concerned people for help.

email?? what’s that? when i was leaving for the cyber cafe, brother asked me to take some hundred rupees. may be they would charge similar to a STD call.

the cyber cafe wallah was too co-operative. from creating my first email id to sending my first mail, i did it all here. and all for just Rs 10/ hour. Read more »

When mass resignations loom ahead

just a few days ago, i blogged in my official blog about an office where the major talk is of an impending layoff. now even though the IT industry in india is slowing down because of a slowdown far off in the US, there’s no such talks hot at my office.

instead, it is the other way round. almost everyone is looking out. and the best thing about it is that they are not making any efforts to cover up their job search ( i mean from the colleagues).

so what happens when you come a little late to office. mind it, you were just late for office because you overslept or were caught up in the traffic. Read more »

Viva Cuba

watched a really good spanish movie called Viva Cuba on World Movie channel launched by UTV.

the film is about two kids, a girl and a boy, who are best friends. they flee away from their parents – their destination the girl’s natural father who is divorced and lives far away.

bearing many difficulties and with the mother’s crying their heart out, the kids finally reach the girl’s father. however, by then, the mothers too have arrived.

but the end isn’t happy. the girl is not able to join her parents once again. they start bickering once again. the kids, failed at their efforts, finally give up their lives; may be that would be a lesson for their parents.

thanks for the english subtitles, i was able to appreciate the spanish film too

Ten things that your IT department will never tell you

i used my recently bought digicam to shoot pics in brother’s marriage. many friends and relatives wanted the pictures and i promised to mail them on their respective email accounts.

only on returning back to delhi did i realise the truth. You can send only 5 kb as attachment with a mail.

it is then that i came across this very enlightening article on “ten things that your IT department will never tell you

do read it for insights on how you can send mails with large attachment and go through many other loopholes in your company’s IT policy.

Sarala Prasad

here’s a story that i came across on a blog today. the best thing about the story is that it reminds me of the old story books that we used to study at school. the story goes thus:

Sarala Prasad

My cousin Anindya lived alone in a house with two lizards. He was quite fond of them, and fed them regularly. Over time, the lizards too started trusting him. They were often seen frolicking on his dining table, much to the annoyance of visitors. Read more »

Ek patthar

ek patthar usne mari jisne kal rat mere sath gujari thi

ek patthar usne bhi mari jo meri hi kaum ka tha par duniya ke samne ane se darta tha

ek patthar usne bhi mari jiske sath sone ke liye maine mana kiya tha

ek patthar masjid ke mullah ne bhi mari kyunki use laga mai islam ko ganda kar raha hun

ek patthar girjaghar ke padri ne mari jiski apni koi ling hi na thi

ek patthar mandir ke pujari ne mari jo apni zindagi bheekh ke anaj se chalata tha

uske bad bas hosh na raha

…………………………

These lines have been taken from a documentary aired on NDTV 24×7 on Nar Narman, first pakistani gay poet, who is now settled in USA. Through these lines he depicts the difficulties of being gay in an all straight world.

(The original lines were in urdu. i have tried to bring the actual meaning of the lines in a more layman language)
